Delicious Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies

I baked Oatmeal Chocolate Chip cookies a few days ago and wrote about them (recipe and all) on my mom's blog.

They were very yummy and are highly recommended.  Oatmeal and chocolate chip are an awesome combination.  In fact, I want to make another batch of cookie dough this week!

Desperate to Remember Kickstarter Live

A couple of days ago, I created a Kickstarter for a novella I'm writing entitled Desperate to Remember.

Desperate to Remember is a romance/suspense story about Sapphire, an amnesiac woman who witnesses a murder, and her bodyguard soon-to-be-ex husband, Kyle.  Sapphire is stalked by the killer.  Kyle wants Sapphire to believe that they are simply old family friends.   Is it possible for romance to rekindle between the two?

Rewards for this Kickstarter include a special thank you on my blog both digital and (signed) physical copies of the book, being mentioned on the Acknowledgements Page of my book, copies of my Assorted Poems book at a reduced price, and a chance to get a copy of my play, entitled Divorcing Smiths.

Check out the Kickstarter here.  Thanks.

Also, remember to enter my giveaway if you haven't done so already.  It ends on September 1, and I'm super excited to see who wins!

Announcing my poetry book: Assorted Poems (Plus preview Kickstarter Project for Desperate to Remember)

Since graduating from law school and taking the bar exam, I have a lot more free time than I used to have.   In order to avoid using this extra time stressing over test results I won't know about until the end of October, I decided to flex my creative writing muscles and try self-publishing some of my works.  I wrote a lot as an undergraduate due to my major, but I unfortunately I've misplaced most of my stories, poems, etc. over the years.   This loss is at least partially due to my failure to backup my computer files.

After weeks of periodically searching for hard copies of my creative writings, I found an old notebook containing drafts of about 2 to 3 dozen poems that I had written for a class.  I spent most of Friday editing 21 of the poems and formatting them into a small collection.  Once I was done, I published the resulting poetry book, Assorted Poems, in both print and ebook formats using the self-publishing services of Lulu, CreateSpace, Kindle Direct publishing, and Smashwords.

On a side note, I am currently working on a novella/novelette entitled Desperate to Remember as well as a one act play entitled Divorcing Smiths.  I am considering going live with a Desperate to Remember Kickstarter Project within the next week or so.  Click here to preview the project.  Please leave feedback, Thanks.

Baked Delicious Oatmeal Scotchies Cookies

Due to a terrible craving for something sweet, I decided to bake cookies.  I found a recipe for Oatmeal Scotchies, and decided to make them because I love oatmeal and butterscotch.  Earlier today, I posted the recipe and my thoughts about the cookies on my mom's blog.

The cookies were amazing.  I had trouble not eating too many and had a bit of a sugar rush.

I have never thought of combining oatmeal and butterscotch together before.   At a young age, I became wary of combining my favorite snacks into one after a disgusting attempt at a peanut butter, jelly, and bologna sandwich. )=  Fortunately, the oatmeal/butterscotch combination is much better!

Jury Pool Questionnaire? Awesome! + Paintings Galore Calender

When my mom brought in the mail and mentioned that I had a letter about possible jury service, my immediate respond was, "Yahooo!"  She stared at me quizzically, and said it wasn't a "Yahoo moment."  I insisted that it was and excitedly filled out the questionnaire.  I've wanted to be on a jury ever since I was a little girl; I'm so curious about what really happens in jury deliberations.  A few of my law professors said that lawyers usually aren't accepted to be on a jury, and I was beginning to think that I would never get a chance to be on one, though I have also heard of some lawyers being on juries.  It would be so awesome if I am chosen to be on a jury.

I take the bar exam on Tues./Weds., and am very nervous about my chances of passing it.  The jury questionnaire was the highlight of my day...

In other news, late last night (maybe around 2 am) I created a calender using tools and some images of my paintings, which are also posted on deviantART.  The calender turned out to be too expensive for even me to have printed, though I have access to the digital version for free.  Maybe I'll see if I can sale a digital version of it or create a cheaper print version.  Until then, my calender is available in my Lulu store.  There's also a preview of it below. =)

Joined Two Dollar Click, Seven Dollar Click, and Proper PTC ($5 per click) today. Proceeding with CAUTION

I've tried several paid-per-click (PPC) sites, and these appear to be the best, if not too good to be true.  They are free to join with basic membership.  Members are paid $2/5/7 per click; most sites pay a few cents or even a fraction of a cent for each click.  They offer premium/paid memberships for people who wish to earn more for premium clicks.   Members can also refer others for additional earnings.  Minimum to cash out is $1,000 for the $2 site, $7,000 for the $7 site, and $5,000 for Proper PTC.

NOTE: Use with caution. As of 7/25/2013, I've just read complaints online about them not paying and possibly being scams.  I recommend not paying for any premium services in case they are.

I haven't paid them anything for the premium services and am waiting to see if they actually pay out.  The 60 business days until payment, along with a few other contract terms, is pretty suspicious.  I have a good deal of free time while recovering from an ankle surgery and nothing to lose from trying them.  I'll post an update about the cash out process later.

UPDATE: (4 am Eastern on 7/25/2013)
I searched more online and found more disturbing information to suggest that these and similar sites are most likely scamsAvoid paying them and file complaints if you have problems.

Portable Fund aka Portable Revenue System: AVOID; Research before "Investing"

I am writing this post as a cautionary tale and to emphasize the importance of due diligence before making any "investments" online.

I've recently been drawn into get-rich-quick type schemes to make money online.  One such scheme is Portable Fund aka Portable Revenue System.  I was nearly bamboozled by the free $10 provided at registration to start "investing" in "revenue sharing," and the investment calculator which showed how users would be able to triple their earnings if they invested at least $20 and let the interest compound.

I was very tempted to invest the $20, because based on calculations I had done, the $20 could become half a million dollars in about 2 years.  My parents both told me this was too good to be true, and nagging doubts kept me from "investing" my own money.

When I first signed up for Portable Fund, the site claimed it was licensed and authorized by the QFC Regulatory Authority in Qatar.  It also claimed to allow users to invest in (1) real estate projects ($10+ for 150 days), (2) petroleum engineering industry and marketing petroleum products ($20+ for 72 days), (3) international trade, stock and forex industry ($500+ for 72 days), and (4) the metal (gold) mining and extraction industry ($1,000+ for 67 days).

I searched online for more information about Portable Fund's business plans, which was ultimately futile.  I also searched to learn more about its Chairman Alex Russman, which also turned out to be a bust.  Finally, I found the QFC website and contacted them via email to ask about what information they could provide about Portable Fund, linking them to the website.  I woke up the next morning and saw an email reply from QFC stating that Portable Fund was not licensed with them at all!  QFC also released a press release warning consumers, which I have included as my first source.   Furthermore, the Portable Fund offices were raided and Russman was arrested.  After being released, he moved the offices to Singapore; the QFC has contacted the authorities there.
